Arrival to Ushuaia

For students flying from Buenos Aires (3.5 hour) to attend a language course in Ushuaia, both LAN and Aerolineas Argentinas have several flights to the Malvinas Argentinas International Airport (USH). LAN airlines flies from Santiago, Chile with stops in Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas. Although you can purchase LAN tickets online, your Aerolineas Argentinas flight can be booked online, but must be paid at an Aerolineas office within 24 hours of the reservation. The airport sits 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) outside of the city center with taxi service or Ailola Latino transportation available to the school. Ailola Latino will provide a transfer from the airport to the accommodations for an additional fee.

By Bus

There is no bus terminal in Ushuaia, but tickets are available to the city, often dropping off in front of designated businesses in the city. All buses stop in Rio Gallegos and often it can be less expensive to buy a ticket directly to Rio Gallegos and then purchasing a secondary ticket to Ushuaia from there. When departing Ushuaia it is recommended to purchase the ticket well in advance of your leave date, since buses can fill to capacity during high season.

By Car

Students are welcome to rent a car and travel to Ushuaia independently. Rental cars and gasoline can be costly, so it is recommended to plan accordingly. Traveling by car can be challenging with the unpredicatable geography, so driving to Ushuaia is not recommended.

By Boat

Ushuaia is a port city and has several chartered boats and cruise-liners that dock there. This can be a more expensive method and can provide scheduling challenges, so be careful when booking this particular type of travel.

Transportation in Ushuaia

Ushuaia has city buses that mostly travel to a few of the tourist destinations. Taxis are also available for local city travel for a reasonable price, usually averaging AR$8 from the city center to outer reaches of Ushuaia. For tourist destinations or tours there are minibuses that can provide transportation. There are also several businesses that provide bike rentals.
