Taxis are not expensive and are great for getting around in short periods of time. Taxis can be taken all around town. Beware of taking taxis outside of the town because rates can rise significantly.
By Bicycle or Scooter
As the town is small and traffic can get manic, bicycles and scooters are a popular form of transportation. Some host families will even provide you with your own bike during your stay. You can also rent bikes and scooters along the beach.
Traffic can get very crazy in Mexico, so many tourists opt for walking or cycling to their close range destinations. Buses and taxis can be used for longer trips. However, should you prefer independence during your language holiday you can always rent a car. This option is ideal for those who want to get out of Playa del Carmen and explore neighboring beaches and towns. The cheapest car model to rent in Playa del Carmen is the VW Beetle. Large agencies, Hertz and National for example, can be found at the airport or along Quinta Avenida.
