Each journey costs a little less than US$1.00 and you will be expected to pay the driver or his assistant. You will be given a receipt which you should keep for the duration of your journey.

By Taxi

Taxis are a more expensive option for transport around Montevideo. They run on a meter and are very transparent when charging passengers. They work with a chart to calculate the price per distance. Tipping is not expected. Taxi fares usually increase at night and on Sundays.

Renting a car is a great option for those who prefer more freedom and affordable if it is booked ahead of schedule. Agencies at the airport and ferry terminal tend to charge higher rates. Be sure to check out these agencies in more central areas of the city: Multicar and Punta Car.
